Member of a pioneer Pike County family, Blackburn was born Feb 6, 1891, at Meta, a son of the late Winfield and Victoria (nee Williamson) Blackburn. In former years, he was active in the Democratic party in Williamson. He was a member of the Bent Branch Church of Regular Baptists at Meta, Ky., and the Brotherhood of Railroad Carmen.
Survivors include his wife, the former Effie Bevins of Road Fork; three sons, Ovid V. (Alene) Blackburn of Merrick, NY., Billy S. (Madalyne) Blackburn of Coal Mountain, W. Va., and J Russell (Anna) Blackburn of Williamson; two daughters, Mrs. Lois (Steve) Szekely of Huntington, and Mrs. Phyllis (Douglas) Adkins of Road Fork; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Lee and Ballard Blackburn, both of Meta, and Nick Blackburn of Williamson; two sisters Mrs. Sidney Pinson of Road Fork and Mrs. John Young of Pikeville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Tobe and John Blackburn, both of Meta.
The body was to be removed from the Allen Funeral Home to the residence at Road Fork at 2:00 p.m. today. It will remain there until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow when it will be taken to the Bent Branch Regular Baptist Church to lie in state from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow at the church with the Revs. Harrison Bevins and Ester Hopkins officiating. Internment will follow in the Bent Ridge Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers.
