The family, friends and the world lost a strong and spirited Norwegian woman as she passed peacefully to join her family in heaven. Margit was born in Franklin, Minnesota, a small farming community to Hans & Paulina Benson of Hammerfest, Norway. Margit’s mother died before Margit was 2 years old, while the men worked the fields, she spent much of her time with all sorts of animals, thus starting a lifetime of love and protection of all animals. Always a hardworking and active woman, she and her husband, Howard, ran a service station in Boise during WWII and later owned the Gem Apartments in Emmett, ID.

She leaves behind her son & daughter in law, Denny & Cyndy Erickson, her 4 grandchildren, Angie Shalz, Matt Erickson, Gina Connolly & Jake Erickson, their spouses and 8 great-grandchildren, Braden, Micaela, Ben, Colton, Lily, Connor, Chloe & Hannah.

Through her strong and caring will she taught many life lessons that her family grew from and embraced. Angie said, “Gigi, as she was known by the great grandkids, went home for Christmas!”

Graveside services for the immediate family will be held January 3, 2016 at the Emmett Cemetery.
