Memorial service for Pauline Valla Bjerke, 82, was Friday at ShermanKnapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash.
Mrs. Bjerke, who died Sept. 14, was born in Susanville, Calif.
Her family moved to Tacoma, where she graduated from Stadium High School in 1935.
Mrs. Bjerke worked as a baking technician for Centennial Mills and in the late 1930s, was transferred to Spokane.
She later owned and operated the Telephone Message Exchange and Answering Service. Mrs. Bjerke also worked as a dispatcher for Spokane Ambulance and as a medical secretary for St. Luke's Hospital.
In 1951 she married Kermit Bjerke. They moved to Elk in 1984.
She was a member of the Spokane Chamber of Commerce and the Elk Homemakers Club.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ronald Rude of Denver and Richard Rude of Basin, Wyo; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
