Clem Faggionato was born on December 11, 1918, in Sandusky, OH, and passed away on November 16, 2017, just weeks before his 99th birthday. Not bad for a man who was given last rites three times while a young man. He was a child of the depression and began delivering newspapers, morning and afternoons, at age 11, to help out the family. He also worked setting pins in a bowling alley, in carnival booths at Cedar Point, digging basements, selling suits for a tailor, and making boxes in a box factory. During World War II, Clem devised a way to reduce the machining time of the wing spar from 13 hours to five minutes and was awarded a master tool and die maker certificate in a trade he only practiced for two years. He worked in the gas station business or as a mechanic most of his life. Because of ill health, Clem and his wife, Gladys, moved to the drier climate of the west, living in a number of places until settling in Fresno in 1959. He lived his last years in an assisted living setting where he charmed the ladies with his kindness and wit. Clem is survived by his four children, Michael Faggionato and wife Martha, Faith Nitschke and husband Buzz, Susan Hodell, and Tim Faggionato and wife Marilyn; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, with two on the way.
