Alta Louise (Stonner) Brown, age 85, of Richmond, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013 at her home.

Alta was born January 19, 1928 in Camden, Missouri, the daughter of Frank Rupert, Sr. and Bessie Mae (Sharp) Stonner. She graduated from Camden High School and attended one year of college at Northwest Missouri State University.

On November 5, 1948 Alta married Herbert Dugan Brown in Camden, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1986.

Alta had worked as a library aide for Richmond Schools from 1974-1997, and had assisted with activities at Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of the Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond where she had served on the church board and was a member of the Priscilla Group.

Alta is survived by two sons, Rupert Brown and wife, Vickie, Richmond, Missouri; Carl Brown and wife, Pam, Evans, Georgia; one brother, Paul Stonner and wife, Delores, Columbus, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Jean Stonner, Richmond, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Mark, and Evan Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Alta was also preceded in death by one sister, Doris Drake, and one brother, Frank Stonner.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond with memorial services following at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend John Johnson officiating.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff and Kathy Lassiter at Crossroads Hospice. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Crossroads Hospice in memory of Alta. They may be left at or mailed to Foster Funeral Chapels, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.
