Funeral services for Ethelbert Beaty Johnson, age 29, who died at a local hotel, Tuesday were held at three o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the residence of Dewey D. Swor, on the Pocahontas highway. The services were conducted by the Rev. Walter B. Capers.
Mr. Johnson was born and reared in this city and attend the local schools. He leaves a host of friends both old and young who sincerely mourn his untimely passing.
He had for some years been in the employ of the state highway department at the Jackson office.
Mr. Johnson leaves surviving him his father, Emory L. Johnson and a brother, Leland Johnson of this city; a sister, Miss Mary Jane Johnson of New York City; a grandmother, Mrs. William Mosal; an aunt, Mrs. David Campbell; and an uncle, William Louis Mosal, all of Canton, and another aunt, Mrs. Robert L. Stigler, of Little Rock, Arkansas. Also surviving him is his father's sister, Mrs. A. W. Thompson of Mineral Wells, Texas.
The pallbearers were Jack Thompson, W.Y. Gilbert Sr., Chaimers Alexander Jr., J.T. Phillips, Robert Wells and Jack Sparks.
Honorary pallbearers wee H.V. Waktins Sr., Cheatham Mackey, Fred S. Yerger, J. Maxey McKee, John Sivley Rhodes, John W. Saunders, A.F. Hawkins, L.M. John Gordon, A.G. Moore Jr., Dr. E.J. Hall, J. Clyde McGee, Lewis B. Williams, Ben S. Lowrey, Marant Adams and all employees of the state highway department.
