James E. Goebel passed away on February 15, 2016.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Beverly (Schnippel) Goebel; children, Anne Goebel, John and Jana (Ralston) Goebel, Mary Goebel, and Sharon (Goebel) and Paul Caroselli; and grandchildren.

Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky by Adam Joseph Goebel and Mary A. (née Finnegan) Goebel, Jim was the middle of three sons: older brother, A.J. Goebel (d. 1996) and younger brother, Bernie Goebel.

He attended St. Xavier High School, Bellarmine College, and the University of Detroit, where he ultimately earned his Master of Arts in English Literature. A lifelong teacher, Jim taught English, the Humanities, and Film at Marian College (now Marian University) for 37 years. A passionately devout Catholic, Jim was a parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Church. In addition to his deep love and dedication to Jesus, his family, and education, Jim loved to experience life to its fullest, especially through literature, art, music, movies, traveling, politics, and sports (especially the Red Sox, Notre Dame, and the Colts).
