She was a descendant of John Lewis of Ireland and his wife, Margaret Lynn who settled in the Shenandoah Valley about 1732. Their daughter, Margaret Lewis married William Long.

Mrs. Emma V. Burks, 84 of 1770 West Kaufman died October 21 in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the chapel of Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Guttierrez officiating. Interment was in Mount Vernon Cemetery at Maxey.

Mrs. Burks, the former Emma Long was born in Tigertown on October 8, 1895 daughter of Hardy Williams Long and Henrietta Braden Long. She attended Tigertown schools and married Edward R. Burks on October 12, 1914. They lived in Tigertown until 1936 when they moved to Paris. Mr. Burks died June 12, 1945. Mrs. Burks was a member of the Oak Park United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters Estelle Harris of Paris and Mrs. Floyd (Marie) Killough of Fairfield; one son, Wilson C. Burks of Mesquite; one sister, Mrs. DeWitt Simmons of Honey Grove; 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene E. Burks in 1944. Pallbearers were Robert Hindman, Elwood Burks, Willie Wood, H.W. Diggs, Billy Jack Simmons and Cary Wood.
