Hannah was the fifth and youngest child of Ira Leonard Prentice and Hannah McSweeney. She was born in the village of Becket, Berkshire Co., MA, and lived there all her life. As an adult, she preferred to be called Fannie, and was often referred to as Miss H. Fannie Prentice, in local news articles. Fannie never married, but was active in church groups. She served as the librarian for the Becket Library for 3 decades, until her retirement in 1946. Her Prentice siblings all moved out of the Berkshires, so she was the last immediate family member to live there. She made frequent train trips to Ohio to visit her older brothers George and James and their families. She was interred along with her parents and her older brother Elmer, in the Prentice family plot, following a funeral at the Becket Federated Church.
