Virginia Merle Lunning, 97, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. She was born on June 18, 1922, in Hampton, to Virgil Deal "Pat" and Margarite (Windelow) Foughty.

Virginia graduated from Hampton Public School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Lt. Col. Virgil Ivan Lunning (USAF-ret) on June 13, 1941, in Hampton. Virginia was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Franklin General Hospital Auxiliary and the Hampton Senior Center.

Virginia loved playing cards, needlepoint stitching, baking, taking fishing trips to Leech Lake and Canada, and traveling. Having lived many places prior to returning to Hampton in 1964, she and Virgil enjoyed visiting Germany, other European countries as well as numerous national parks.

Virginia is survived by her sons Lt. Col. David and wife Carol of O'Fallon, Missouri, and Robert and wife Nancy of St. Paul, Minnesota, grandchildren David Lunning, Jr. of O'Fallon, Illinois, Debra and husband David English of Aurora, Illinois, and Chance Lunning of St. Paul, Minnesota, great-grandchildren Tyler and Connor Lunning of O'Fallon, Illinois and Taylor and Brenna English of Aurora, Illinois, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Margarite Foughty, husband Lt. Col. Virgil Lunning, sister Margaret Laipple, sister Dorothy Foughty and brother Max Foughty.

Services will be held at a later date.
