WWII vet, retired from Kennedy Van Suan
Alvin J. Hewlett Sr., 87, of 755 E. Market St., Danville, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Nov. 9, 1917 in Berwick, the son of the late Charles E. and Alice M. Hewlett.
Mr. Hewlett retired from Kennedy Van Saun, Danville, where he was employed as a chief inspector. He was a member of the Washington Fire Company, Danville, and he enjoyed gardening and hunting. Mr. Hewlett served in the Army Air Force, 890 Chemical Company in Guam during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, June E. McAllister Hewlett, whom he married Sept. 12, 1942. He is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Alvin J. "Jim" and Donna L. Hewlett Jr., of Northumberland. One grandson, A. James Hewlett, and one granddaughter, Jodi L. Hewlett; three great-grandchildren; Justine; Jared; and Jayden, also survive him.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Joelle K. Hewlett, in 1992 and three sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 10 W. Mahoning St., Danville, with Pastor Steven Froelke, Victory Baptist Church, Shamokin Dam, Pla., officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
