Carolyn Jane (Beaver) Hamann, of Greenwood, passed away August 15, 2019. She was the first child born to Dr. Howard W and Anna Louise (Lorenz) Beaver on April 24, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana. For the first two years of her life she was known as Missy, while her father served in World War II. She was not given the name Carolyn until he returned.

Carolyn met the love of her life on April 20, 1963, and later married H. Paul Hamann on January 8, 1966. Survivors include her children, Diana Lynn (Tim) Ruschhaupt of Indianapolis and P.J. (Wendy) Hamann of Brownsburg, were most appreciative of their father’s persistence in pursuing their mother; her sister, Marilyn Ann Thompson; her brother, Walter P. (Holly) Beaver; three grandsons, Jacob and Will Ruschhaupt, Paul Hamann, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Carolyn graduated from Gulf Park High School in Gulf Port, Mississippi. She earned her Bachelors in Occupational Therapy from the University of Illinois, where she was an active member in Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She later earned her Masters in Occupational Therapy from the University of Indianapolis.

As she and Paul moved around the Midwest during the early part of their marriage, they finally built a home in Greenwood, where they raised their family. Carolyn was an extremely active leader in Girl Scouts. She volunteered her time helping to provide an excellent scouting experience for hundreds of girls.

In the early 1980s, Carolyn returned to the work force securing a job at Riley’s Hospital for Children, working specifically with kids who had Cerebral Palsy. She became an expert in designing seating systems for patients confined to wheelchairs. Carolyn enjoyed the work. She had an innate ability to understand those who were non-verbal, and to help others who could not sit up be able to do just that. One patient at a time she was able to change how they were able to interact with the world.

Carolyn left Riley in the early 1990s and opened the first Indiana branch of National Seating and Mobility. With the love and support of her family, she was able to build a successful branch of this company. Later helping open branches in Evansville and Fort Wayne. Again, she was able to make a tremendous difference in the lives of her patients and she began to positively impact those that she worked with. Her steady influence on how to work with people continues to guide her former colleagues to this day. It was during this time that her love, Paul, passed away from bladder cancer in 1997.

Carolyn continued to work designing seating systems until she retired in 2008. Prior to her retirement she had begun to travel, eventually setting foot on six of the seven continents, and getting within a stone’s throw of the seventh. She also, rediscovered her passion for drawing and painting. Her friends and family have been the recipients of beautiful pieces of art that will help us remember her well into the future.

Carolyn did not seek the spotlight, she preferred to help others grow and watch them accomplish greatness. She was extremely proud of her two children and the differences they have made in other's lives.
