Thomas Welch Callahan, Jr., 79, died peacefully surrounded by family on November 30, 2012, in Carol Stream, IL. The son of Irene (nee McDonald) and Thomas W. Callahan, Sr., he was born February 1, 1933, in Flint. He attended St. Matthew School, served as a U.S. Army radio operator in Germany, and graduated from the University of Michigan. He began his career at AC Spark Plug as a junior accountant and retired in 1992 as manager of national sales. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce (nee Purcell): they met at a St. Matt's-St. Mike's dance, and he was smitten and told her, "If I had $10 in my pocket, I'd marry you tonight." Tom is survived by their children, Charles (Patrice) of Eagan, MN, Bethany (Thomas) of Birch Run, Marjorie (Timothy) of Carol Stream, IL, Dennis (Marie Joelle) of Chicago, and Maureen, also of Chicago; as well as their ten grandchildren Nicholas, Lindsey, Christopher, Ryan, Melissa, Joyce, Katherine, Natalie, Oliver, and Julian; two great-grandchildren Sydney and Leo; his sister Barbara Johnson (of Hailey, ID); his brother Patrick (of Covington, LA); and 24 nieces and nephews. "Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand." Service and interment were private.
