Mr. Cheek was born in Belle Plaine, Texas (Callahan County) on August 29, 1924, the son of James Blaine and Dorothy (Williams) Cheek. He moved to Abilene in 1936 where he married Rosa Lee Dudley on August 29, 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Howard was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Faith Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lee in 1998; his parents; two daughters, Linda Joyce Cheek and Margaret Ann Cheek; and two brothers, Dennis Cheek and Herbert Cheek.
Survivors include his son, Gary Lee Cheek of Abilene; brother, Lewis Franklin Cheek of Baytown, TX; sister-in-law and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Parris of Abilene; sister-in-law, Mrs. Yvonne Cheek of Abilene; niece, Debbie Pfluger; two nephews, Mike Cheek and Neal Cheek; and numerous cousins.
Pallbearers will be Jim Hargrove, Don Hargrove, Clyde Watson, Jim Barefoot, Jerry Ray, Jimmy Fry, and Jay Franks.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
