David L. Ellingson, 73, of Owatonna died June 21, 2013, at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna after a courageous battle with cancer. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. and one half hour before the time of time of services at the Brick – Meger Funeral Home. Memorial services are schedule for Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Brick –Meger Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward McGrath presiding. Military Honors provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit. Private family interment will take place at Saint Vincent de Paul Cemetery in West Concord.

David was born on Feb. 9, 1940, the son of Lloyd and Betty (Angell) Ellingson in Austin, Minn. He attended school in Austin and Blooming Prairie then graduated from Owatonna High School in 1958. Following high school, David worked at the Meriden Creamery before being drafted into the United States Army. He served stateside during the Cuban Crisis. After being discharged from the Army, Dave went to work for Owatonna Tool Company. He was united in marriage to Dora “Dodie” Lermon on July 31, 1965, in West Concord. The couple made their home in Meriden and Faribault for many years. Dave went to work for the airline industry in 1969, starting with Western Airlines and then went to work for Northwest Airlines for the rest of his career and retiring 2003. In retirement Dave worked for area auto dealers delivering cars around the country. Dave was a member of the Steele County Historical Society. His life interest include all spectator sports, car racing, watching his sons play their sports.

Dave is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dodie; two sons Jeff (Kris) Ellingson of Illinois, Brad Ellingson of California; two grandchildren Trey Ellingson of Illinois and Natalie Ellingson of California; three brothers Gary (Barb) Ellingson of South Dakota, Steven (Kathryn) Ellingson of Michigan, Brian (Gary)Ellingson of Minnespolis; one sister Judy (Ron) Eggers of Owatonna; and many nieces and nephews. Dave is preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to Homestead Hospice of Owatonna or the Steele County Historical Society.
