Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Bowman was born in Wilson Co., Tennessee, January 17, 1809 and departed this life Nov. 8, of old age, aged 98 years, 8 months, and 21 days.

She was married to Lewis Cogdell Pipkin Oct. 27, 1828 in Gibson Co., Tenn. where she lived until the death of her husband Feb. 19, 1882.

She came to Kansas July 1882 five months after the death of her husband, where she remained the most of the time until her death, making her home with her son, Jonas Pipkin.

To this union were born four children, three of whom survive her, they are John Daniel Pipkin of the Masonic home in Wichita, Jonas Swingler Pipkin of Garden Plain, Kansas, Lewis Washington Pipkin of Alva Okla., Mary Lucinda Pipkin dying in Infancy at the age of two years.

There being five generations in the family she had living at the time of her death, fourteen grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren, only one of the great great grandchildren attending the funeral.
