Charles was the son of C.H. Morris of Algoma West Virginia and Ethel R. Morris of Roxboro North Carolina. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and arrived for duty in Vietnam on February 27, 1967 where he was assigned to and served with D Company, 1st Battalion, 503D Infantry, 173D Airborne Brigade, USARV.

On November 12, during OPERATION MACARTHUR , BINH TAY in Kontum Province elements of the 503D Infantry engaged the enemy in a fierce fire fight in the vicinity of Hill 823 some 11 kilometers south, southwest of Ben Het. During the engagement 12 soldiers were killed in action, one of the casualties was PFC Morris who was killed by fragmentation wounds from a hostile explosive device.
