Eleanor M. Purseglove
Eleanor Marion (Mathias) Purseglove, 88, formerly of 241 Russell St., died Friday in a local nursing home. She was a staff psychologist at the former Belchertown State School from 1936 until her retirement in 1972. She was born in Bridgeport, Conn., and educated in the local schools. She earned a bachelor's in psychology in 1933, and a master's in psychology in 1948, both from Mount Holyoke College. She was elected to the Massachusetts Psychological Association as an associate in 1956 and was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa at Mount Holyoke College. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hadley and was very active in church affairs. Her husband, Alfred T. Purseglove, died in 1996. She leaves two stepdaughters; and three nieces. The funeral will be Tuesday afternoon at the church, with burial in West Street Cemetery, Granby. A calling hour will precede the service. The Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton is in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation, 11 Campus Lane, Easthampton, MA 01027 or the Residents Activity Fund, in care of the Center For Extended Care, 150 University Drive, Amherst, MA 01002.
