Gilbert Wayne Chebahtah, a resident of Tijeras, New Mexico, has left for his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 24, 2019.

Gilbert was born December 31, 1937 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was a proud member of the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma, second born to Mooney Sunrise Chebahtah and Mollie Godsoe Chebahtah of Indiahoma, Oklahoma and grandson of Chevato.

Gilbert graduated from Indiahoma High School in 1956 and began his military duty completing his assignment in 1959. He honorably served his country in the US Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He then attended college, acquiring a degree in accounting and computer programming and retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Albuquerque in 1998.

Gilbert passed on to join his late wife, Deanna Kay Stovall Chebahtah, whom preceded him in death in 1993.

He will be remembered as a beloved brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. His memory will live on through his two children, First born, Jonathan Sunrise Chebahtah and his wife Brenda Margret Chebahtah; his second born, Jennifer Mabel Chebahtah Peifer and husband Eric Charles Peifer; grandchildren, Shayne Osgood-Chebahtah, Shyla Mary-Kay Lewis, Kayera Reyann Chebahtah (Kay-Kay), and Kacy Sunrise Peifer; two sisters, Marilee R. Chebahtah and Mollie Bernice Chebahtah-Miller; three brothers, Hugh Edwin Chebahtah, Matthew Lloyd Chebahtah and Joseph N. Chebahtah; as well as other family members and friends who loved and will miss him.
