James W. "Bill" Allspaw, 75, formerly of Lafayette, died at 12:30 Tuesday in St. Elizabeth. He had been in ill health three years and hospitalized two weeks. He lived at 223 Golden Hill Road, Monticello.

Mr. Allspaw was a representative for a number of candy manufacturers in Indiana from 1947 until retiring in 1973. He was a barber at Red's Barber Shop in West Lafayette from 1932 until 1942.

Born Sept. 23, 1910, in West Lafayette, he was a 1930 graduate of West Lafayette High School. He lived in the Lafayette area most of his life and moved to Monticello 10 years ago.

On April 21, 1935, he married Sylvia L. Elston in Lafayette. She survives.

Mr. Allspaw was a member of Monticello Moose Lodge and was co-founder of The Old Codgers Classic golf tournament, for men age 65 or older, which is held annually in Lafayette.

Surviving with the widow is a son, David V. Allspaw, Sr., of Lafayette and two grandchildren.

No service at Soller-Baker Lafayette Funeral Home. The body was donated to Indiana Anatomical Board.
