Colorado Springs, Colo. -- LaVerne F. Bieker, 73, formerly of Hays, Kan., died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at his home. Mr. Bieker was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Schoenchen, Kan.

He was a self-employed dry cleaner and a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Colorado Springs. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Alverna of the home; three daughters, Jackie Volz, Rita Zalen and Kathy Smith, all of Colorado Springs; two sons, Tim of Colorado Springs and Dean of Frenchtown, N.J.; three brothers; three sisters; and 12 grandchildren.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Anthony Cemetery, Schoenchen, the Rev. Earl Befort officiating, with military honors by the Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars. A rosary will be said at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays 67601. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
