David was born October 22, 1933, the son of Maurice Lancelot and Ellen Phillips Gamell. David graduated from Our Lady of Victory School in Portsmouth, Virginia.
David Gamell and Angela Victor Newby were united in Holy Matrimony February 22, 1956.
He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, where he spent a total of 8 years. He was honorably discharged and decided to pursue a college degree and enrolled at Delaware State University, Dover, Delaware. He went on to receive a B.S. degree in Science. David accepted a position as a Science teacher in the Portsmouth School System. He also worked for U.S. Postal Service in Portsmouth.
David was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Norfolk, where he was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver.
In addition to his full time career, he was able to become an avid bowler.
Predeceased by his brother Maurice Jr.
Survived by his wife Angela, many nieces, nephews and friends.
