John Philip Schroder, Jr., 92, of Beaumont, died Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Gilbert’s Assisted Living, in Beaumont. He was born on May 9, 1927, to Marie Leidner Schroder and John Philip Schroder, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a graduate of Warren Easton High School in New Orleans. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Austria. Upon return, he attended SLI (Southwestern Louisiana Institute) and graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree. While at SLI he met his future wife, Alice Broussard. A lifelong love of crabbing started on their first date! When Johnny graduated from SLI, they moved to Beaumont, Texas, where they shared a beautiful life for almost sixty-eight years.

Johnny worked as an electrical engineer at Bethlehem Steel for almost thirty years. Upon retirement, he taught basic engineering at Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont for ten years.

A lifetime of volunteerism included- serving as a board member and volunteering at Some Other Place, lecturing and counting money at St. Pius, working in the Beaumont Diocesan Chancery stuffing envelopes, serving as a CCD teacher, being a scout leader and a little league baseball coach. Johnny was always ready and willing to help anyone in need- a legacy that he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Johnny also had a lifelong love of stamp collecting, working puzzles, gardening, following the Astros and because of his love of chocolate, exercising!

Most importantly, he passed on a legacy of praying always and loving God and loving others with all your heart.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Alice Schroder; son, John “Jay” P. Schroder III and his wife, Leslie, of Houston; daughters, Karen Schroder of Beaumont; Nancy Peroyea and her husband, Miles, of Katy; and Marti’ – Schroder Walsh and her husband, Bill, of Kingwood; grandchildren, Reid Schroder and his wife, Jessica; Camille Casey and her husband, Matthew; Marc Schroder and his wife, Ann; Trey Peroyea and his wife, Jayme; Trent Peroyea and his wife, Jessica; Kyrstyn Bishop and her husband, Eric; and Brendon Walsh; great-grandchildren, Baby Boy Schroder expected October 2019, Maude Casey, Faye Casey, Parker Schroder, Felix Schroder, Juliette Peroyea, Charlotte Peroyea, Everly Peroyea, and Blake Peroyea; and many nieces and nephews- all whom he loved well and much.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rosemay Landry and Jacqueline Davis; and great-grandchild, Saoirse Bishop.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Johnny’s special doctors (Dr. Bishop, Dr. Lin and Dr. Byrd) and their teams at MD Anderson hospital. A special thanks, also, to the staff of Gilbert Assisted Living and Compassion Hospice, in Beaumont, for caring for and loving Mr. Schroder so well.
