He graduated from Bishop LeBlond High School in 1968. After he graduated he plunged into the business of his family.
Barbosa operated a family business that owned three St. Joseph, restaurants, Barbosa"s Castillo.It was Steve who supplied, free of charge, the Mexican food at the annual St. Patrick's Fiesta, which is the school's primary fund-raiser.
Steve remained close to St. Patrick's because older members of the family went there when Holy Rosary closed.
He was also involved in the community as a member of the St. Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce and various civic organizations including the Downtown Lions Club and Knights of Columbus No. 571. He was a guiding force in the Bishop LeBlond fall carnival, as well as the school alumni groups.He worked with the St. Joseph Soccer Association and the Boys Baseball Eagles league. He also was a member of the Air National Guard.
Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel is handling funeral arrangements. Visitation will begin at the chapel after 10 a.m.
The body will arrive at St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church where Barbosa was a member. Entombment will be at Mount Olivet Mausoleum.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, of the home; two sons, Stephen B. and Ryan J., both of the home; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. E.C. Barbosa of st. Joseph; a sister, Judith barbosa Wain, and a maternal grandmother, Oreana Gentry of St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by a son Thomas Joseph Barbosa in 1977.
