Larry Axton of Coyle, Oklahoma passed on July 17, 2019 at the age of 73. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel, Stillwater, OK followed by interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coyle.

Larry was born September 5, 1945 in Leedey, Oklahoma. He was the third child of William (Bill) and Barbara (Buffaloe) Axton. They moved to Cushing in 1952 where Larry graduated high school in May of 1963. He worked in the Oil Refinery in Cushing until its closing. He then worked at Langston University and then Oklahoma State University in HVAC until his retirement in 2005.

He married Joyce Carrier on November 20, 1992. She and Larry loved to fish and have driven many miles to do so. It was always a competition to see who caught the most or the biggest. After retirement his favorite early morning pastime was watching the deer cross the pasture.

Larry loved people and never met a stranger. He always had a story for everything and most were exaggerated. He loved life and laughed often.

He is survived by his wife Joyce, sister Jeannetta and Jerry Matthews and three children, Robin and Devin Mercer, Perkins, Jerry and Sue Axton, Guthrie and Lori and Mark Grant, Perkins. Also by his grandchildren Misty and Larry Clore, Cailee and Jesse Williams, Calvin Axton, Jesse Axton, Natasha and David Trainor, Adam and Amber Grant, Chelsea Day, Elizabeth and Darrin Loftis, and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Barbara Axton and a sister Wilma Bullard.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Smith, Cody Cundiff, Darrel Bickell, Tom Bickell, Bryan Henigman, and Larry Kajorli. Honorary Pallbearers are Ronnie Liston and Rodger Anderson.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to either the COPD Foundation or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
