Herbert J. Ferree, 89, passed away July 17, 2019.

He was born Jan. 4, 1930, the son of late George and Zella (Felkner) Ferree Hamilton. He married the love of his life Lois Silvers Aug. 11, 1950, who survives.

Herb graduated from Bloomington High School in 1949. He retired from Indiana University as an Architectural Draftsman in which he was involved with designing the Sample Gates and many others. He and Lois could be seen walking through out the campus almost every day hand in hand.

Herb Served in the Marines in the 1950’s was a member of the First Church of Nazarene where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent and was awarded the top honor by the church for Distinguished Service Award, was a board member, bus driver, and spent many hours volunteering in many ways at the church.

They have three children Larry Ferree (Donna Lentz) Pam Matthews (Fred) Jeff Ferree (Terri)
Five grandchildren Farra Ferree, Sean Ferree (Stephanie), Shea Ferree Carney (Ben), Jacob Ferree and Cole Ferree. His great-grandchildren Nolan and Savannah Grace Carney.

He is survived by two sisters Helen Brummett Shryock and Jane Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Wanda Jackson, Evelyn Polly and brother Paul Ferree.

Herb loved to hike the mountains and had many stories from his adventures to share with his friends and family. He loved to do oil painting, gardening, and any aspects of nature. He loved to take the grandkids on walks to the “Meadow” as he called it, behind his house.

Herb was a very loving and patient man, was known for his gentle smile, and loved Lois, his family and mostly his love for Christ
