Mr. Melvin L. Halterman, 74, of Cascade, MD passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 in his home.
Born July 6, 1945 in Waynesboro, PA he was the son of the late Della P. (See) Halterman Byers and Percy G. Byers, Sr.
He was a graduate of the Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1963.
Mr. Halterman served with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era. He was honorably discharged on March 17, 1965.
He and his wife of over 43 years, EvaMarie “Trudy” (Helser) Halterman, were married June 18, 1976 in Hagerstown, MD.
In his early years, Mr. Halterman was employed by Victor Cullen, Sabillasville, MD. He was later employed as a foreman for West Brothers Construction, Waynesboro, for over 25 years.
Mr. Halterman enjoyed genealogy, motorcycles, antiques, and spending time with his family. He collected coins, postcards, and Pen Mar and other various local memorabilia.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two children, Mica Piper of Waynesboro and Lisa Martin of Prairie Village, KS; four grandchildren, Kira Bumbaugh, Kyla Piper, Ethan Taylor, and Alex Taylor; three siblings, Percy G. Byers, Jr. of Falling Waters, WV, Junia Warthen of Emmitsburg, MD, and Nancy Paxton of Chambersburg, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Delores Patterson and a brother, Albert Halterman, Jr.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742 or to Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, 45 E. Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
