Born Feb. 2, 1927, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Henry Forrest and Hettie Whitener Simpson.
A member of Zion Lutheran Church, he was an employee of Hickory Business Furniture Inc. in the maintenance department and was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include a son, two daughters, a brother, three sisters, and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Floyd Bost at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
