Obituary of the Late Z. J. Winkler- Newman Independent
Zachariah James Winkler was born December 29, 1854, and died October 12, 1937 at the home of his son, Elbridge, where he has made his home since his wife's death ten years ago.
He was married to Alfrata Jones August 10, 1875. To this union was born 9 children, three daughters, Nora, Lola, and Janet preceded him in death. Mrs. Winkler died August 6, 1927. The living children are: Murvin E., of Tuscola; Hugh E., of Newman,; Ephriam of Rardin; Daisy Fuqua, of West Point, Miss; Flora Snyder of Wichita, Kas; J. Elbridge, of Terre Haute, IN.
Mr. Winkler was converted at an early age and has remained a faithful member Of the church since. He transferred his membership last fall to the First M. E, Church of Farmersburg, IN.
He leaves to mourn his departure, the six children, 20 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends."
The above obituary was read at the funeral of Z. J. Winkler on Friday afternoon of last week. The services were held at the M. E. Church. Interment was at Newman Cemetery.
Music for the occasion was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. H. B. Smith, Miss Martha Shephard, Messars. H. B. Smith and W. C. Becton, with Mrs. Harvey Winkler at the pipe organ.
