Services for Coy Dell Overstreet, 61, of Dickens, were Monday, December 15, 1997 at the First Baptist Church in Dickens. The Rev. Robert Fields of Amarillo officiated. Burial was in Dickens Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mr. Overstreet died Thursday, December 11 at 3:42 p.m. at his residence in Dickens after an illness. He was born June 14, 1936 in Dickens where he lived most of his life. He married Julie Sanchez March 25, 1995 in Dickens. He was a member of the Baptist church. He spent 23 years in the U.S. Marine Corp. retiring in 1977. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, the First Marine Division, Association, the American Vets, a life member of HMM161 Squadron, the National Association of Radiation Survivors, and also served as past vice-president. He was also a Veteran's Service Officer, a life member of the National Association of Atomic Veterans. He also spent many years as street foreman with the city of Abilene.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Overstreet, Dickens; two sons, Richard Allan Overstreet, San Diego; CA, Ronald Den Overstreet, Eagle Point, OR; one daughter, Robin Jeaneete Means, San Diego; two step daughters, Stephenie Johnson, Dickens; Megan Johnson, Dickens; one brother, Bill Overstreet, Dickens; one sister, Wanda Nelson, Albuquerque, NM and five grandchildren.
