He was born Saturday, October 30, 1926, in Jamestown, Russell County, KY. He was the son of the late Lemuel Levy Blankenship and the late Altha Helm Blankenship. He died Thursday, January 5, 2012, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 85 years, 2 months, and 6 days.

He worked as a farmer. He served in the U.S. Army as a private in World War II.

He is survived by the following:
Two daughters: Marcella Shaffer and Brenda Coe, both of Jamestown, KY

One sister: Hazel Cundiff, Russell Springs, KY
