MOULTRIE COUNTY NEWS 8/2/1940

Millard T. Monroe, prominent Sullivan citizen, died at 1:45 oclock on Thursday morning at the family home in this city. He suffered another paralytic stroke last Saturday morning from which he never recovered.
Mr. Monroe had been a resident of Sullivan since 1915 when the family moved from their farm two miles west of Sullivan to this city. He always took an interest in public affairs and stood for the best interests of the community.
Besides his wife, Mr. Monroe leaves the following children: Mrs. Edward Hamblin and Loren Monroe of this city and attorney Ralph Monroe and Mrs. Ralph Hamblin of Decatur. One son, Walter preceded him in death. He also leaves four grandchildren, Marjorie and Donald Hamblin and Orville Monroe of this city and Bobbie Monroe of Decatur. Mr. Monroe also leaves a brother John A. Monroe of Portland, Ore, who came recently to visit his brother here.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday but further arrangements had not been made at the time of the news went to press yesterday.
