Opal Gladys Carpenter Huff, 95, of Batesville died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at a local hospital.

Born Nov. 13, 1907, in Rosie, she was the daughter of Dixie Land and Mary Florence Hooper Carpenter. She was a retired school teacher having taught at Rosie, Salado, Southside and Sulphur Rock. She was a member of the Salado Baptist Church.

Survivors include two nephews, Howard Carpenter of Salado and Dixie Carpenter of Bethesda; three nieces, Joann Parker of Batesville, Kathy Knight of Gulf shores, Ala., and Jacqui Kendall of Ukiah, Calif.; several great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, T.N. Huff; two brothers, Jess B. Carpenter and George Carpenter; a half brother, Valley Carpenter; and a half sister, Doris Carpenter.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Salado Baptist Church with David Wesley officiating. Burial will be at the Egner Cemetery at Salado with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.

Pallbearers will be Pat Hooper, J.D. Hooper, J.M. Hooper, Clay Hooper, Jessie Parker, Mark Carpenter and Clark Carpenter.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight.
