Rita Marie Nelson, 77, of Quincy went to meet the Lord at 4 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000) in Blessing Hospital.
Born April 27, 1923, in Quincy, Mrs. Nelson was a daughter of Carl and Caroline Doellman Schnier.
Mrs. Nelson worked for 18 years at the Illinois Veterans Home, doing clerical work, before her retirement. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish and a former member of the Altar Society.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen Nelson and his wife, Neva, of West Branch, Iowa, and Ronald Nelson and his wife, Sandra, of Payson; three daughters, Donna Briggs and her husband, Bob, of Quincy, Sandra Miller and her husband, Larry, of Quincy, and Lisa Ballard and her husband, Steve, of Glendale, Ariz.; a brother, Norbert Schnier and his wife, Beverly, of Brookfield, Wis.; two sisters, Mary Ann Gramke and her husband, Edward, of Quincy, and Betty Paluszkiewicz of Herndon, Va.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Schnier; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Edgar Schnier.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in St. John Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, with a parish prayer service at 4 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Salesian Missions.
