E.J. ALTHOFF DIES SUDDENLY

Edward J. Althoff, 62, Gettysburg, died at 12:40 this morning at the Warner Hospital where he had been admitted after being stricken at his home on Christmas Eve.
A native and lifelong resident of Adams County, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mary Weimer Althoff. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Since his retirement last April from the Duffy Mott Co. after 23 years of service he had operated a sharpening service at his home.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Riley; a daughter, Mrs Joyce Kroushour, New Oxford; six sons, Edward Althoff Jr., Gettysburg; Robert E. Althoff, Gettysburg; Richard M. Althoff, Arendtsville; Kenneth F. Althoff and Donald W. Althoff, both at home, and Gerald L. Althoff, Gettysburg; 12 grandchildren, 10 brothers and sisters, Francis Althoff, Hanover; Sister Theresa Fides, St. Francis Convent, W. High St.; Sister Mary Angelita, Shamokin; Mrs. Thomas Lawrence, Hanover; Mrs. Catherine Obenstein, Phonix, Arix.; Joseph Althoff, Arendtsville; James Althoff, Biglerville; Mrs. Walter Griest, Mummasburg; John Althoff, Keymar, Md; and Leo Althoff, Trenton N.J. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning with a meeting at the Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. celebrated by his pastor, Msgr. Alphonse T. Marcincavage. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
