DeWayne Leroy Olson, 87 of Gibbon died Thursday July 4, 2019 at CHI Health Good Samaritan.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 10:30 at the Gibbon Baptist Church in Gibbon, NE. Pastor Scott Wiles will officiate. Military rites at the church will be conducted by the Gibbon American Legion Post #310 and the U. S. Air Force Military Honors team. Arrangements are under the direction of Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney.

DeWayne Leroy Olson was born January 4, 1932 in Kearney to Gilbert and Mildred (Holl) Olson. He received his education from Gibbon High School, graduating with the class of 1949. In 1949 he enlisted in the United States Air force and proudly served his country during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged in 1952 he returned home where he and his wife farmed southwest of Gibbon.

He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, LaBerta Power on December 20, 1951 in Gibbon. To this union four children were born; Joan, Gilberta, Darcy and William.

DeWayne was a longtime member of many clubs and organizations including the Gibbon American Legion Post #310, Kearney Elks Lodge #984, East Kearney Livestock 4-H where he was a club leader and the Kearney Men’s Bowling League.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, LaBerta Olson of Gibbon; daughters, Joan Daly and her husband Jerry of Juniata, NE and Gilberta Eatherton of Gibbon; sons, Darcy and his wife Tammy of Gibbon and William and his wife Vicki of Omaha; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; sister Phyllis Pedersen of Kearney along with many other relatives and friends.

DeWayne was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Lenard Pedersen and son-in-law Terry Eatherton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Leroy and Janice Power, brother-in-law Ronald Power and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ernie and Jane Wiles.
