Essie L. Keeney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Baker, was born October 9, 1877 near Licking, MO. She passed away from this life at her home near Houston December 20, 1936; making her age 59 years, 2 months and 12 days. She was married to Bert B. Keeney September 17, 1899 at her parents' home south of Licking, MO. To this union ten children were born; all except Edith, who preceded her in infancy, are surviving and were present at her bedside when the last call came.
The children are Ira and Bert, of St. Louis; Winfred, Wayne, Joe, Woodrow, Frank and Irene, of Houston, MO; and Mrs. Willard Coats, Clara.
She gave her life to Christ in young womanhood and was a member of Ozark Baptist church. She had lived a sweet, consistent Christian life, always loyal to her Master up to the time of her passing.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her companion, the nine children, the aged parents, four brothers, three sisters, two grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
She has gone from us, but yet she lives. Her life speaks louder than any words of praise. The community held her in highest esteem and she will be greatly missed. It is Heaven's gain and our loss, but may we all have her life as a shining example before us.
Funeral services were held at the Ozark Baptist church Monday afternoon, attended by a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends. The services were conducted by Rev. Alphus Capps, assisted by Rev. Ivan L. Coyle and Rev. J. R. Halbrook. Interment in Ozark cemetery. Funeral was under direction of Elliott funeral directors.

Sleep on, dear mother,
Take your rest;
God called thee home,
For it was best.
