Chas Eugene “Gene” Settle, 101, of Columbus died at 6:10 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2019, at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Gene was born in Columbus September 27, 1917, the son of Harley and Hattie May Kinsey Settle. He married Dorothy J. Sparks November 23, 1940 in Louisville, KY; she preceded him in death March 10, 2002. After graduation he went to work for Arvin Industries for two years, then moving to Cummins Engine Company where he worked for 41 years, retiring as a Supervisor in 1980. After retiring he worked with Butch Nolting on the Nolting family farm. He also worked tending the flowers at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church which let him enjoy his love of gardening. He was a huge I.U. basketball fan and loved to play golf. He is survived by daughter, Sara J. (Max) Zeigler of Little River, SC; grandchildren, Greg W. (Sheri) Nolting of Columbus, Jennifer L. Nolting Baldwin (Gary) of Columbus and Michael A. Nolting of Columbus; great grandchildren, Nick Nolting, Kyle Baldwin, Ryan Baldwin, Brock Nolting and Emma Nolting. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Susan Nolting; son Daniel Settle. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark R. Teike officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to service time. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-reed.com.
