David Lynn Fuhrman, born 2 Jul 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri, was the only child of Clarence William and Ollie Opal (nee Grissom) Fuhrman. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis in 1947. After high school, he took a summer job as a street photographer with Candid Pictures. His job was to photograph shoppers and couples in and around downtown St. Louis or at ball games, auto races or the movies. Eventually he decided to join the armed forces and took an entrance examine for the United States Navy, scoring in the top 10. At the time, he was given a stipend to attend the University of Missouri at Columbia, however, David found it was not enough to live on, so he instead was able to get a release from the U. S. Navy looking into military service that would allow him to start basic training immediately. He came to find that the Marines would have him wait like the Navy but the U.S. Army was ready to send him out that very day and so he signed with the U. S. Army.
David's basic training in the U. S. Army was at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. In September of 1948 he took part in a rescue mission to evacuate 8,000 people from the island of Camiguin in the Phillipine Islands that were under threat from an erupting volcano. For this rescue mission, David served on the U. S. Transport, "Gen. William Weigel", commanded by Capt. Walter Williams.
During the Korean War, David first started out as a driver with the 2/66th Transportation Company, however, he would eventually transfer out of that company and go into training with the Fort Belvoir Engineering Training Group. This training led to him being transferred to the 808th Engineering Aviation Bn., attached to the 5th Air Force. At this point, David was now a surveyor as part of a crew that built runways where needed during the Korean War.
In 1952, David was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army from Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. For a time, he did investigative work for an insurance company in St. Louis and on 30 Jan 1954, he married, Arlyne Rose Frame. They eventually moved from St. Louis, Missouri to Pasadena, California where, on 1 Aug 1955, David became a Pasadena Police Officer as part of the Motorcycle division. David himself would say this was the best job, especially being able to ride a motorcycle for work. That said, David would leave the Pasadena Police Department on 6 Apr 1962.
After the Pasadena Police Department, David hired on with the Los Angeles Co. Sheriff, becoming a Deputy in February of 1963 and eventually becoming a Vice officer. He would eventually leave the Sheriff's office and join with a civilian security firm to guard, Johnston Atoll during the time that nuclear tests were being conducted in the 1970s. He would eventually sign on with Holmes and Narver, another civilian security company, assigned to Wake Island in the 1980s. In 1988, he returned to So. California and was appointed a Special Deputy through the Orange Co. Sheriff, assigned to guard Leisure World.
After an on the job injury to his back, David left his post at Leisure World in the mid 90s and he and Arlyne moved back to Missouri. Arlyne passed away in 2001 and David sold the property they had bought. He would eventually find his way to Texas. He spent his final days at a trailer park in Marble Falls, Tx. He passed away, 2 days shy of his 90th birthday on 30 Jun 2019.
