Son of William A FERRIS and Harriet Lois "Hattie" SYNDER, born in Letcher, Sanborn Co., South Dakota.

Emery moved to Homer, Calhoun Co., Michigan as a child, where his mother was originally from (Albion, Calhoun Co., MI). In 1915, he moved with his maternal Uncle Ezra Orlando Snyder to Huron, Beadle Co., South Dakota.

In 1942, he enlisted and joined the army. After his discharge, he opened a Studebaker dealership. He owned and operated this business until 1952 when he retired.

Emery married June Pearl (Redmond) Danley on 10 Jan 1949 in Minnehaha County, South Dakota. They had no children together, but he helped raise his wife's son Robert Leroy Danley from her previous marriage to Clifford Darold Danley.
