Club Springs Community resident Mr. Mark Baker, died following a battle with cancer at the age of 81 at his Bellar Hollow Road home at 7 p.m. Saturday evening June 29, 2019 with his loving and caring family, many friends and neighbors at his bedside. He was under the special care of Avalon Hospice of Cookeville and they pronounced him deceased at 8:32 p.m.
His pastor Eld. James Thomas Gibbs officiated at the 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon July 3rd funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Gordonsville Cemetery.
One of nine children, he was born Marcus Baker in Hyden in Leslie County, Kentucky on March 22, 1938 and was the son of the late Beecher and Mildred Campbell Baker.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Baker Bridgeford and Phyllis Baker Shelton and by two brothers, Don Baker and Jerry Baker.
After retiring from the Ford Motor Company in Sharonville, Ohio, where he was a tool crib manager, he relocated to Smith County. His retirement was in 1994 after a thirty six year career.
On May 10, 1997 he was united in marriage at the Jared Missionary Baptist Church in the Ditty Hollow to the former Linda Faye Sexton Williams. The ceremony was officiated by Eld. Steven Swords.
Mrs. Baker had lost her first husband, Walter Eugene "Bug" Williams Jr. to cancer on November 7, 1994 at the age of 52.
Mr. Baker attended the Monroe Senior High School in Monroe, Ohio.
He proudly served our country with the United States Army, was a proud American and was a member of the Am Vets Post # 389. On August 30, 1961 he was inducted at Louisville, Kentucky and on August 29, 1963 he was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class at Fort Devens, Massachusetts.
He came under conviction at a revival meeting at the Jared Missionary Baptist under the preaching of Eld. Danny Tomlinson and was later saved at home in 1999 and was baptized into the full fellowship of the Jared Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife Linda of over twenty two years are four children, Brian Baker and wife Cindy of Middletown, Ohio, Phillip Baker and wife Kimberly of Gibsonton, Florida, Dale Williams and wife Christy of the Club Springs Community, Martha Williams Chaffin and husband Charlie of Gordonsville; two sisters, Doshia Baker of Demossville, Kentucky, Barbara Baker Colwell and husband Allen of Hazard, Kentucky; two brothers, Lowell Baker of Busy, Kentucky, Marvin Baker and wife Shirley of Hyden, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Amanda Baker Salyer, Carly Baker Gerard Bret, and Leighan Baker, D. J. and Nicholas Williams; five great-grandchildren.
