Andrew O. Score died at his home in Shell Creek on Thursday morning October 15, at the age of 77 years after being in failing health for several years. He was born in Fagerness, Valders, Norway on the 15th day of July, 1884, was reared and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, in which faith he had lived a devout and faithful member. In 1865 at the age of 17 he came to America. He located in Iowa but spent a part of his time in Wisconsin and Minnesota. In 1875 he was married to Sigrid T. Estrem in the Old Lutheran College in Decorah, Iowa. Two years later in 1877, they came to Nebraska where they homesteaded and lived ever since. They endured with patience the trials and hardships incident to establishing a home in a new country, and to them among other hardy pioneers, son of whom have gone before, is due the settlement of the Shell Creek Valley.

To the union of this couple were born eight children, seven of whom survive the father and all were at his bedside when he gave back to his Maker the Spirit breathed into man at his birth.

He leaves to mourn his death, his devoted wife, seven children, twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one brother. The funeral was held from the home at 1:30 and from Our Savior Church at 2:00, the services being conducted by Rev. Turmo.

Thus ends the life of a pioneer who helped blaze the way for civilization and progress. During all the hardships of the early days he never faltered, but had faith in God and struggled on to win for himself and family a competence and the respect and esteem of all who know them. He has seen his children grow to manhood and womanhood a credit to himself and his faithful wife, to the neighborhood and country and passed quietly to his reward fortified with the firm belief of having “Fought the Good Fight” and won a reward.
