William Steele Jr.
William G. Steele Jr., 64, of New London died Friday, June 22, 2007, at his home.


Born Sept. 9, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of William G. and Betty Jean Hartman Steele Sr. He married Marilyn Gipple, and they were married for 40 years.

Mr. Steele worked as a mechanic at Hines Motors and Jim Cordes Ford, both in New London. He managed the VFW in New London. He was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Tony Steele and Toby Steele, both of New London; one grandson; and one stepgranddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday at Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Steele will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Jerry Phillips officiating. Burial with military honors by Henry County Honor Guard will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.

A memorial has been established.
