John second marriage to Margaret Thomas Holmes. (1746- 1814). Margaret birth and death was in the state of Georgia.
John was the son Susannah Poinsett and John Josiah Holmes / Homes.Captain John Josiah married 1767 Chloe Bentley Holmes.

John HOLMES of Wilkes Co., Ga. whose probate started on March 8, 1803. He lived on the waters of the Dry Fork of Long Creek in Wilkes, from at least 1785 until his death. Multiple persons by the same name lived in the area so we must look for the names of his family or neighbors for verification that we have our correct ancestor.

Children: Apsilla Milner, Penelope Milner, Mary Parks; Josiah, John, James, Elizabeh and Moses HOLMES.

Josiah HOLMES was willed one-fourth of John HOLMES's land, the lower part, and one horse.
Note: CHLOE named in his will and records as early as 1787.

CHILDREN: Apsilla (wife of Pitt MILNER), Penelope (wife of Benjamin MILNER), Mary PARKS, Josiah B. HOLMES (d. about 07 Jan 1828), John HOLMES, James C. HOLMES, and minors Elizabeth HOLMES and Moses HOLMES (d. about 1803) are named in his will and probate.

Neighbors Jeremiah REEVES, Humphrey WELLS, and John MILNER from deeds and tax digests. Robert KILGORE was originally granted his HOLMES's 150 acres on Dry Fork of Long Creek which is repeated in tax digests.
