Richard Franklin Garey, of Georgetown and formerly of Horseshoe Bay and Brady, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, at the age of 74. A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, at the First Christian Church in Brady. Richard was born in Harlingen, to Andrew J. and Frances (Samuel) Garey. He married the love of his life, Pamela Arlene Spann, on April 4, 1963. He and Arlene spent many years in Brady and McCulloch County, before moving to Austin in 1981, Horseshoe Bay in 1997 and most recently to Georgetown. Richard was with the Strategic Command Unit in the United States Air Force until he was Honorably Discharged in October of 1962. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, farming or playing an occasional round of golf. Richard was a man of strong faith and a member of the First Christian Church. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved family. His smile, caring nature and loving heart will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Frances (Samuel) Garey; one son, Clay Garey; one sister, Helen Reynolds; his mother and father-in-law, Claude and Bessie Spann; as well as three aunts, Lessie, Norma and Alice Samuel. Survivors include his wife, Arlene Garey, of Georgetown; one son, Chris Garey and wife DeAnna of Waco; one daughter, Jaci McCollum of Highland Village; five grandsons, Ray, Collen and Christian Garey and Hunter and Jack McCollum; one brother, Jack Garey; two nephews, Glen Garey and Jim Wood; and two neices, Jeanie Collins and Susan Hacker. Family request memorial donations be made in memory of Mr. Garey to the First Christian Church in Brady, Cherokee Home for Children or to the DRT- Republic of Texas History Complex.
