Gerald Ray (Jerry) Adams, age 72, was freed from his prison bars of Alzheimer's on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, in Brownwood. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Brady with his son, Rev. Jason Adams, presiding. Jerry was born April 30, 1939 to Oak and Mildred Adams in Cincinnati, OH. He married Eileen Greene on May 30, 1963. Together they enjoyed 48 years of marriage and the birth of two children, Judith Eileen and Jason Elliott. Before moving to Brady in 1978, Jerry served as a U.S. Marine embassy guard in Mexico City. Mr. Adams, as he was known to all his students, taught school for 31 years, 20 of which were in Brady and three for Rochelle ISD. He touched many lives, especially those of his ESL students. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served in numerous positions on the Walk to Emmaus spiritual weekend retreats. Survivors include his wife, Eileen, of Brady; a daughter, Jerry Adams, 72 Judy Holdar and her husband, James, of Brownsville; a son, Jason Adams, and his wife, Kalenda, of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren, Sabre Holdar of Brownsville and Jacob, Grayson and Abigail Adams, all of Corpus Christi; three brothers, John Adams, Carl Adams and Gary Adams, all of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Joan Crist, of Tuscon, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, James L. Holdar IV. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church Choir or to Alzheimer's Research at Texas Tech University.
