Archie E. Millard Jr., 81 of Presho, died Tuesday, June 19, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.

Funeral service will be Saturday at the Presho United Methodist Church.

Interment will be at Presho City Cemetery. Isburg Funeral Chapels of Pierre and Presho have been placed in care of the arrangements with Pastor Sandi Neil officiating.

Archie Earnest Millard Jr. was born on May 28, 1926, in Yankton, S.D. to Archie and Francis (Wescott) Millard. At the age of 9 his family moved to Blunt S.D., where he grew up and attended rural school.

When he was 18 he joined the service and served during WWII at Okinawa. After he returned home from the service he worked for 12 years for Fred and Myrtle Doering near Blunt and on May 24, 1953, he married Cora Jean Stulken in Wessington Springs S.D. In 1958, they purchased their farm south of Presho where they raised their family and farmed and ranched.

In 1982, they moved to town where Archie became involved in many boards. He was clerk and supervisor of Pratt township for many years, served for 12 years as a director with the Kennebec Elevator, was on the Pratt School Board, Sunday school superintendent of the United Methodist Church, 60-year member of the American Legion, 4-H leader and a member of the United Methodist Church in Presho. Archie enjoyed and loved the ranching life. He also enjoyed hunting, traveling, his grandchildren, renting bulls and of course playing cards.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Cora Jean, his four children; David of Presho, Norval and wife Debbie of Presho, Travis and wife Starla of Vivian, and Lavonne and Mike Harmon of Chelsea, S.D. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren Nathan, Brandy, Holly, Derek, Trinity, Scott, Donna and his four great-grandchildren Tyrone, Zachary, Jake and Logan. He is survived by three brothers Alvin of Blunt, William and wife Shirley of Lead and James and wife Bessie of Shepherd, Mont.; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Ladonna, one brother, one sister, one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law.
