A native of Buncombe County, he had resided in Charlotte for 3-4 years prior to moving back to Buncombe County. He had served in the Trucking Industry and retired in 2003 from Borg-Warner where he was employed for many years.
Gerald was a 1969 graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School where he was a four-letter athlete, was a graduate of Blanton's Business College where he received his AAS degree in Traffic Management, was a member of Oak Forest Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Youth Leader. He worked with the Erwin Youth League where he had touched many young people's lives.
He was a son of Adda Lee Moore Odum of Woodfin and the late Andy Odum.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his daughter, Stephanie Alyse Odum of Asheville; brothers, Michael L. Odum of Leicester and Thomas W. Odum and wife Keri of Woodfin; 4 nieces; the love of his life, Nancy and long time friends, Arthur Lamb, Wayne Parris, Ron Payne, Larry Edwards, Roger Clement, Joe Howard, Cliff Lance, Ronnie Davis, Duane Cook and Mark Nix.
Memorial services will be held 6 P.M. Thursday, September 29, 2011 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the family receiving friends immediately following the services at the funeral home.
