Son of Curtis Holms Stone & Margaret Hackleman; siblings - Curtis Jr, Tilghman, Nelson, Amelia (Mrs. Daniel Gift), Ellen Jane (Mrs. Robert W. Shafer), Sylvia (Mrs. Lewis Heslet) and Sarah Stone.

Enlisted as a Private on 24 January 1865 in Company A, 153rd Indiana Infantry Regiment Indiana. Mustered out Company A, 153rd Indiana Infantry Regiment Indiana on 4 September 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky. Received Civil War Disability Pension on 13 March 1889 (Application #693994, Certificate #802907, Indiana).

Married Amanda Leedy on April 22, 1880 in Wabash County, Indiana. They were the parents of Otto Leedy, Abner, and Margaret Rebecca.

Married Charity Sampson on February 17, 1896 in Wabash County, Indiana.
