Another Pioneer is at Rest
Wm. Marks, for Forty Years a Shoe Dealer in Murray, Passes Away at His Home Monday Evening – In Failing Health Many Months.

Another break in the ranks of Murray business men has been caused by death, William Marks, a pioneer citizen and for forty years a shoe dealer in our city, having passed away at his home Monday evening at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 16 days, his demise following many months of failing health.
Born in Germany in the year 1845, he grew to manhood in his native country and in 1867 made a visit to America, returning home for a few years but returning to the United States in 1871, and since remained an honorable citizen of his adopted country. In 1877 he located in Murray and in 1881 entered the shoe business which he conducted until a few weeks ago when the encroachment of declining years and illness forced him from his daily customs and required complete rest at home.
As the days passed, it could be seen, however, that our old friend was losing in the battle for life, as his condition continued to become more critical until the end which came at 9:30 o'clock Monday evening.
The deceased lived an honorable life throughout the many years here and we doubt if anyone will speak but respectfully of his memory. It will indeed seem out of place to not meet "Billy" from day to day coming and going to his place of business as we have been so accustomed to see these many years.
Funeral services will be held from the late home this afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C.W. Proctor, pastor of the Murray M.E. church.
The obituary will be published in these columns next week.
